The days are shorter. Yesterday I could not see my notebook to record
data at 0630, the sun didn't rise above the ridge behind OF until
0730, and when the 0700 call from the VC for geyser info came, there
was no reply. Given my dread of driving back and forth in the dark, I
chose to go in later this AM, and yes, the traffic was much worse, but
not impossibly so, and I did not have to wait for warm sunshine to
venture out and about. I stopped first at the VC to download times
and capture the eruptions from earlier in the AM--not much logged!
Smoke looked to be an issue early on, but moved off during the AM, and
it turned out to be fairly clear day. I may split the difference and
try a little earlier tomorrow, but not so early as 0600. I expect to
be hiking, so no report tomorrow (and not much of one today).

Great Fountain was imminent when I left about 1430.
West Yellowstone News did an article about the geyser hill walk in
Last Fri 9/14 edition. Darlene Bos led that one,and apparently did a
great job--a very positive article. Of course they saw Beehive, so it
got off to a great start. The eruption lasted 8 minutes per the
reporter, which differs a bit from my recollection.
www.westyellowstonenews.com "Ranger programs educate visitors about
wonders of Yellowstone" by Mike Moore. More photos from the article
than those printed can also be viewed via the multimedia tab at that
website.
