NPS page ( http://www.nps.gov/yell/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm ) has had a note regarding the webcam problems posted for many weeks.
Relocating the cams has been discussed and, so far, rejected. IMO an opportunity was missed when the new VEC was designed and built without including this technology. I urge NPS to relocate the cams to avoid several issues: 1) weather and geyser spray reaches the "protective" glass that covers the lens, obscuring the view and requiring periodic replacement that involves safety risks to personnel (climbing a tall ladder to service them on a tree that sways in the wind); 2) features behind Old Faithful on Geyser Hill are difficult to see at times; 3) downbasin features are hidden. Replacing them with or adding cams at other, better accessed viewpoints with improved support equipment locations would resolve many of these issues. Okay, I'm stepping off of the soapbox now . . . (c:)
