[Geysers] Hydrothermal eruption?

The Jackson Hole story attributes the 1800s Excelsior eruptions to similar
explosions. Is this correct? I was always under the impression that
Excelsior operated similar to Waimangu -- erupting powerfully, but
short-lived...
