June 22, 2009 a miserable day -- finally some clearing but howling wind all day. So I did quite a bit of windshield gazing and then got back to town by 1400. Plume times this time: 0516; then 0832ie and 0943. Beehive's Indicator was 0558 ie, Beehive 0609. Lion initial 1110. Castle 0634 major. Grand 2039 last evening, then 0746 (T1C with a duration of about 9 minutes; interval 11h 10m). Oblong was called somewhere around 1130, but I was driving and didn't write down the time. Daisy 0516, 0751, and 1021. Riverside 0833. Reported by others were: Frountain 0725ns. Great Fountain 0834. I will leave it to Lynn to tell about the car in Great Fountain's runoff channel. On the drive in, I caught Pink Cone's start at 0620. Later, another hour spent there netted only: Box Spring 1156 and 1241. Bead Geyser 1208 and 1241. At approximately 0545, while driving in at about the nine mile mark on the Madison (right where there is the big drive-through pull out with the "Talus" sign), I saw 4 cow elk running full tilt. Sure enough, about 100 feet behind them was a large grizzly. Three elk dashed into the river, but the other ran across the highway still followed by the bear. They disappeared into the small trees north of the road, then a few seconds later re-emerged a bit farther up the road. The elk jumped and flew into the river. The bear slammed on his brakes and said "Oh, [shucks]" (paraphrased). All elk made it across the river and disappeared into the forest, and the bear meandered back downstream... Fun event that lasted perhaps 1 1/2 minutes start-to-finish. Scott Bryan **************An Excellent Credit Score is 750. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps!
