Since Scott left us with a cliffhanger in his geyser report for today, I'll pass along word of the recovery.

I got a call from Jeff Cross this evening to say that Giant did NOT erupt on the recovery hot period. Here's what he told me:

Steve Eide observed Spa erupting this morning around 0630 even though Grotto had been off for a while. I know that this CAN happen, but it's not common. After Spa quit, basically nothing happened until the recovery hot period. The hot period took place at around 1530 and lasted about 10 minutes. There was good surging in Mastiff, to 4 feet and wide, for the first two thirds of the hot period. However after that, Mastiff went flat and was just quietly overflowing until it dropped rapidly. Turtle boiled as high as 6 inches during the hot period. There was a restart that lasted several minutes, but surging in Giant was only decent.

There was another hot period in the evening, length and strength unknown; it was observed from Grand.
