.  The trail to Mystic Falls above the Biscuit Basin is well worth the effort to continue past the falls area and get up on the bluff for a dramatic view of the thermal basins.
 It has been a few years since Nancy and I took the whole trail but I'm quite sure it is open. With a little planning it is easy to see an Old Faithful eruption  from the overlook. 
I think the round trip (loop) hike would be about 3 miles , and perhaps 800 feet vertical rise. Mystic Falls itself is dramatic on a cold day for the steam vents  along the water course.
