Geyser Report Sunday, September 13, 2015 Some clouds kept the expected heat away. Low 30's this AM, 70's coming home just after noon. The next 3 days are forecast to be rainy--especially Wednesday--we'll see. A substantial herd of bison clogged the loop road just S of the Fountain Paint Pot S entrance before 0800 this AM, then proceeded to flow onto, across, and around the Fountain Paint Pot nature trail. The long fence from Clepsydra to the stairs "trapped" them in a cul-de-sac--at least those who crossed by Jet. Others crossed nearer Clepsydra beyond the boardwalk, climbed the hill next to the stairs, and crossed the boardwalk to the plateau before all retreated south. A helicopter overhead stirred them up a bit. One calf stepped into a hot pocket and did a dance when he was scalded. Visitors seemed to have no concept of 25 yards. As I returned home after noon, more bison on Fountain Flat had S bound traffic backed up for miles. A small group crossed between Great Fountain and White Dome at a rapid jog as we waited for the Great Fountain eruption (1139 p=7). Suffice it to say, bison everywhere! Exiting Firehole Lake Drive, I witnessed a family in a van who appeared to be collecting the neatly cut "dead and down" peeled logs placed on the roadside to block parking on the NE corner. And, of course, they were parked there. Two wrong way drivers on Firehole Lake Dr this AM. If the road is clear ahead of you and there is a line of cars behind you, YOU are the problem. If cars must cross into the adjacent lane to drive past your stopped car safely, you are NOT off the road. I'm "preaching to the choir" here. You all share the same frustration on occasion, I'm sure.
