A quick update from Monday 8/31/15. MA pointed out that not only did
Ledge erupt that day but according to the YVO monitor, Echinus erupted
8/31/15 at 2016. MA observed Echinus earlier on Monday and reported that
there was good convection over the part of the vent that we both
remember the eruptions starting from in the past. She has seen boiling
more from the middle while observing earlier in the year but noted the
good convection on Monday. Now if someone can just see an eruption to
know ......
I spent the day in the northern part of the park but did stop shortly
at Norris on the way north and then again on the way back south. In
the morning, the "pit" (I think that is what people are calling what I
knew as the "pressure pool" in the 90s) was down about 8 inches below
overflow. In the evening it was down about a foot and a half. No
splashing from the vents. In other words pretty much what might be
expected 2 days after an eruption.
I did have a couple great hikes in the north, one to a historic site
and the other to a very interesting geologic site. Great fun but no
geysers.
Back to the UGB on Thursday.
Dave
