We stopped at WT to switch drivers on our explore-the-park day June 6
(parking lot at least was open). I am thanking every god in every
pantheon I've ever heard named that Paul had just taken over and was
fresh and rested because as we started the journey up the hill to
Craig's Pass, we had our first ever near-elk-vs-car incident. It was
dark, the elk appeared just to be standing in our lane minding her own
business, but it was dark, and headlights coming in your direction
down the hill from Craig's Pass are not what you want to see in this
particular situation. Paul managed to swerve, missing both the elk and
the oncoming traffic, but I wondered if this was one of the cows for
which the area was closed earlier. You're not exactly looking for
little baby Bambis in a situation like this!
Go F&M go! (and Gemini, too; I saw my first several series of Gemini
last year thanks to Lynn's patient instruction)
