See map attached. The epicenter was near Christchurch on South Island. Geothermals are on North Island, several hundred miles away and presumably relatively unaffected. I too have been thinking about our Kiwi geyser friends. I believe they all reside near Auckland or Rotorua on North Island. One can only hope those affected by the quake make a speedy recovery. We certainly wish them well. And (this was the really callous question), has this second big quake nuked the thermal features? Or might we see Waimangu sort out its plumbing system and erupt again? Hearing from lots of people (fortunately, most are OK) but was hoping the lack of info on the NZ thermal features doesn't mean our geyser friends (carbon and silicon-based) have been harmed.
