Hello from a mostly silent presence on the geyser listerver, I recognize the photo of Chinaman ("Chinese") Spring in eruption -- I think Tom and Genean used it to illustrate one of Lynn Stephens' articles on the 1959 earthquake. The photo may be in the YNP slide files, but I am not sure of this. During Yellowstone's recorded history, I don't know if Chinaman Spring has ever had a strictly natural eruption; all the ones I've heard about or have read about were induced. Marler, in his Inventory, reported that the spring can be induced very easily; it certainly boils vigorously in its normal state, so I guess I'm not surprised by this. Just thought I'd give my ten cents worth. Andrew Hafner -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: </geyser-list/attachments/20110810/1f4eda58/attachment.html>
