I cannot directly help with Lynn's request though I do recall times when Island was not in eruption. These, though, were never long-term but, rather, times when Island acted in a truly intermittent fashion. Intervals were usually short -- seconds to a minute or three -- with durations much, much longer. Once such episode took place in mid-summer 2007. Sorry, I cannot provide any details beyond that. (If it was Rick, it was sometime between 1988 and 1997). I've gone through the Sputs, but can't find any mention of this. Does anyone else remember this and can you help me identify the year? Thank you.
