Yellowstone National Park Solicits Comments
For Heart Lake Trail Project

Yellowstone National Park is soliciting comments for a proposed
project to do routine trail work on part of the Heart Lake Trail. The
project will focus on the portion of the trail near its junction with
the South Boundary Trail. This is also the vicinity of the confluence
of Red Creek and the Snake River.

The main intent of the project will be to reestablish trail tread that
is prone to erosion. This will be accomplished with the construction
of new erosion control devices and replacing tread. Crews will
install a system of drains and retainers using both stone and timber
structures. These structures will have the purpose of limiting water
flow retaining tread material. Also, when necessary, ruts will be
filled using rock and soil.

The project will be done by National Park Service staff in partnership
with the Montana Conservation Corps. Funding for the project is being
considered through Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural
Resources Recreational Trails Program.

Written comments should be received no later than October 26, 2009.
Mail to: Bill Hopkins, Backcountry Trails Office, P.O. Box 168,
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, 82190. Emails may be sent to bill_hopkins at nps.gov
