I was holding off waiting for a post by David Goldberg, sorry. He told me that the recent Grotto download showed Grotto having marathon eruptions again recently, and that the near 90 degree turn of the signs strongly suggested a Giant eruption to him. Having that information to start with would have been helpful, because based on what Megan reported about water on the platform and Bijou being off, I would say that Giant probably erupted within 12 hours prior to when Megan found the signs moved. Depending on the size of the eruption and the wind direction, the signs don't always move a long way, so the corroborating evidence is just as important. In this case, it also gives us a clue as to when the eruption may have occurred. Thanks to Karen, Carolyn, and Megan.--Tara Crossfanandmortar at hotmail.com Date: Thu, 12 Feb 2009 20:43:06 -0800From: yellowstonekaren at yahoo.comSubject: RE: [Geysers] Giant signs nudgedTo: geysers at lists.wallawalla.edu; Megan_O'Malley at nps.govCC: I asked Megan for details when I was in the Visitor Center today. She said there was a lot less ice than a few days before, standing water (on a cold morning) and that Bijou was off. I asked about the possiblity of the signs being kicked by bison, but she didn't think they would have kicked both heavy signs that far.
