All times, unless otherwise noted, are from Thursday, August 20. Another gorgeous day in Yellowstone! Temperatures were above 70, and for one of the first times all year, I was in shorts, t-shirt, and sandals, and I was still feeling warm. Every once and awhile there was a cool breeze that made the temperature seem perfectly comfortable. I took the morning off to say good-bye to a few of my co-workers, and to catch up on sleep that I lost during the work week. I made a terrible mistake of not going to the Visitor Center to check the logbook before I went anywhere, so at about 1400, I left for Lower Geyser Basin because there had been a visitor report of Fountain at 1000 yesterday (8/19). I figured that I shouldn't have more than a 2-3 hour wait for Fountain. I arrived at 1430 to find Jet erupting about every 10-12 minutes. I ended up staying until 1730. There was a Super Frying Pan at 1706, but I needed to get back to the Upper Basin so I could catch dinner at the Employee Dining Room. The eruption was at 1806 (d=32m). When I did go to the Visitor Center after dinner, I then saw that Fountain had been reported at 1205 (d=35m). Oh well... I did see an eruption of NTFL, Deep Blue, Honeycomb (minor, as usual), and one large eruption of Kaleidoscope. That was the first Kaleidoscope eruption I had seen all year. There was also a geyser in the Sprinkler Group that was having some large eruptions about every 5 minutes. Tara had seen eruptions from it earlier in August as well. I am not sure what it is, but guessing Angle? Eruptions were wide, with some jetting that reached probably 20-25 feet. Other times from today: Aurum 1052, 1442, and 1617 according to the logbook. I am curious what Ralph's electronic will say, or maybe there was a large Pump eruption?
