[Geysers] Some thoughts on Giant

First, I too want to thank Carolyn for her reports over the winter (and now, too).

Still a bit unclear on the first point, though. I think this means that as of April 4, the signs replaced at Giant following the March 28 eruption were still in place and that, therefore, there was no eruption during the first days of April.

Second, it was I who went out in the basin on April 28, literally at the moment when they opened the trails (and thus, by a few seconds, was the first person in the Giant cage in this season) and immediately reported the Giant signs washed and, minutes later, that the F&M markers were gone. I called these on the radio and, I'm sure, this is the source of the logbook entry... I know it was Rebecca Roland who replaced the F&M marker(s), so she probably did the Giant logs, too.

And we'll see what shakes out... if the trails ever reopen.

Yes, the text of the April 4 signs/marker replacement is correct. I post too quickly sometimes, but figure that's better than no post. What I meant was that as of that posting, new sign placements and marker were in place.

I just asked spring staff about April eruptions by posting something in our staff logbook. I'll let you know what I find out. There's an interesting entry in the geyser logbook on 4/28 (yes 28) that the Giant signs were washed and Fan & Mortar marker as well. It didn't say those were replaced.

  We'll see what shakes out,
