The lack of grotto marathons also explains the lack of Grotto Fountains. "Historically" the farther away from a Grotto marathon a Grotto eruption is, the less likely it is that Grotto Fountain will precede the Grotto eruption. Thus, fewer Grotto marathons also equals fewer Grotto Fountain eruptions. It may be a coincidence, but Grotto seems to have had no real long-mode eruptions between July 6 and August 3, and only one eruption in that period that was substantially longer than the usual short-mode duration. That's a pretty striking change--literally one marathon in the last month--and it overlaps with the period during which Grotto Fountain wasn't observed. Looking at the year-to-date data, it looks like there's an ongoing major decrease in the frequency of marathons, especially intermediate-length marathons, that started shortly before Giant went dormant.David _________________________________________________________________ Reveal your inner athlete and share it with friends on Windows Live. http://revealyourinnerathlete.windowslive.com?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WLYIA_whichathlete_us -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
