Hi Scott,

I was the one who let everyone know of Fountain's eruption at 1113 on 9/2/07; thought I would take the chance of introducing myself to you & to all others who get this via the server. My name is Paul Behunin & I am from Taylorsville, UT (near Salt Lake City). I can only get up to Yellowstone about 2-4 times a year for about 4 days each time, so you all won't hear from me too often. My 3 brothers & I rediscovered Yellowstone after a 20+ year absence back in 2004, and we can't get enough of it, especially the geysers. I now spend the bulk of my limited vacation between Yellowstone & Zion National Park (which my great-great-great-great-grandfather named "Zion.") So, now you know who told everyone about Fountain that day. You're welcome, everybody!

My brother Stephen & I were thrilled to see Giant for the first time in our lives on 8/30/07; it was the first geyser of our trip. It was a years-long dream come true for us & I took many pictures. We also saw the most beautiful Old Faithful eruption we have ever seen on the evening of 8/31. We were on the "deck" of the Old Faithful Inn. The rainstorm that day cleared near sunset, creating the most vivid double rainbow I have ever seen, then Old Faithful erupted with its beautiful feather-shaped jet. The plume was one of the tallest I have seen; brilliant white against the dark grey of the departing storm to the east, with the intensely bright rainbows arcing above. Unforgettable. Everyone there was yelling, cheering & clapping like mad. Of course, I had left the camera in the car that time! Still, I'll never forget it.

Best wishes to you and all the other gazers; may you all have the time of your lives!

I remain at your service,

Paul V. Behunin

Yes, today was only day three of this interval, but... Grotto had started a marathon at 2128 on Friday and that didn't end until somewhere around 0200 today -- a duration of 29 hours + or - . So we waited for the recovery, which took about 12 hours and finally began at 1426. Some interesting stuff happened toward the end of the time, such as really high water levels in The GIP and three (or was it four?) consecutive Mastiff bathtubs before the hot period finally started. Alas, the hot period was briefly strong but short, d ~ 5 1/2 minutes, and never threatened any eruption.> Overheard on the radio (mostly):> Artemisia 1022, for an interval a few minutes longer than 24 hours.> Riverside 1249.> Daisy was 0920 and 1222.> Oblong at 1032 was huge -- certainly the tallest I've seen in 2007.> Grand was 0606ie (-2C) and 1305 (T1C).> I did see Penta in full major eruption at 0810ie.> Lynn called Tilt's Baby at 1249 and 1408, but I don't know if that's a closed interval or not.> Castle had a morning minor at 0609E and then a major at 1346.> Lions were called at 0938 and 1110.> Aurum was radioed as 1108ie.> Somebody (Dave?) advised us of Fountain at 1113, d ~ 33m.> And after the Giant hot peirod finally happened, some of us rushed down to find that Great Fountain was completely finished by 1500.> Scott Bryan> ________________________________> Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL.com.
