[Geysers] Boiled vegetation Re: Geysers Digest, Vol 801, Issue 1

I have asked about this already three or four times over the years with no good results, but I can't help trying again. My very strong memory from the early fifties is that Steamboat was also surrounded by lots of vegetation before it reactivated. Is there any known photograph anywhere which shows some or all of this vegetation? I would dearly love to see it.
Thanks.

Paul,
At the time, there was some suspicion about the 1978 eruption, as I
understand.
But at the same time, again, as I understand, there was once a time
when many of the rarer fall events were considered suspicious, apparently
because that was right when all the seasonal employees were all about to go
home !! There can be some heavy employee partying that goes on right around
then..
One of the things I remember most about the 1982 Giant was the all
pervasive smell of cooked vegitation, as all of the plants that had grown up
in the area over the years were boiled to death.
It smelled kind of like...seaweed.

Congrats on the 1982 Giant. However, the Giant eruption of Sept 9, 1978 was
the first non-induced eruption since 1955, and was seen in the distance by
Marie Wolf and several others.

Gang,
I have just started watching the OF web cam while I do my computer work
here at our local community college.

So THAT was the big cloud of steam I saw back behind the trees to the
left
a little after 7:00 web-camera time last evening !!
I kind of thought it was Grand.....so it was cool to hear that it was
Giant.

who saw the Sept 1982 Giant eruption, at that time thought to be the first
non-induced eruption in 19 years.)

I just looked at the webcam feed. They have zoomed in a bit and moved to the
right a bit. BAD!!!
Giant will not be visible. Old Faithful's eruptions will frequently be out
of the image on the top. No benches are visible.
Yes, it looks like somebody cleaned the lens - and thank you for that. But
please revert to the view we had. This serves no purpose. And people who
like calling back home to wave to the webcam will also be disappointed.

I just saw that the view from the webcam has changed again, and IMO for the
better. It's a bit more to the left than previous. It should be easy to
see Grand now (it used to be almost directly on the left side.) Dome is not
there, but I can live with that.
