I spent an hour watching Steamboat on Friday afternoon (April 20). About 10% of the minors were initiated by the south vent. The rest were almost evenly divided between being concerted and being north vent initiated.

For the most part, the minors were in the 10-15 foot range. There were a couple of bursts here & there (from each vent) that were closer to 20 feet. The south vent was putting out decent run-off at times into the front channel.

Cistern Spring was overflowing and boiling vigorously. There were pools to both the left & to the right of the spring.

There were grizzly tracks by Emerald Spring that may have been from April 10 (see bear report on the park website).

Here's hoping that I saw a low point in Steamboat's cycle, and that things will pick up!!

Keep going Giant!
