[Geysers] acronyms, was Giant again 4/30/06

GIP = Giant Indicator Pool.

It's a small hole about 100 feet to the north of Giant, immediately east of
the boardwalk. In most years the water remains several feet down (where a
lot of under-6 ft gazers can't see it).

Technically, it's more associated with Mastiff's water level - almost
precisely, in fact. Perhaps MIP would be more appropriate, but "the Gipper"
AKA the GIP has been used since '87 or so.

What's amazing about the last few weeks is that the water level isn't just a
bit higher, or a typical spring rise of a foot or so, but astonishingly
high. To have the GIP look like a pool is essentially unknown, with the
exception of during actual hot periods.

The water level on the platform (notably Mastiff) is clearly higher than any
of us have seen it during modern gazing time (like since the 60s.)

GIP?

Is there a place where a newbie can get a list of the acronyms you folks
use?

Thank you so much!

Meg
