[Geysers] October Sput/ Lynn Stephens's article

The article by Lynn Stephens was particularly interesting to me
because I have from time to time sounded hot springs etc in New
Zealand thermal areas. This has not been a systematic activity, and
the early soundings, starting in 1951, were curiosity driven and
opportunistic. However, soundings of the two hot lakelets at
Waimangu were done more persistently and the methods evolved. A
scientific paper was prepared describing the work, and posslibly
because of its rather unusual topic it was selected for reproduction
on Te Ara web-site (Royal Society of New Zealand on-line
encyclopedia). For anyone who might be interested to read this paper
the URL is http://www.rsnz.org/publish/nzjgg/notable/Keam1980.pdf

Note that the bathymetric maps as presented in this paper are very
much simplified and that the full maps of the bathymetry of Frying
Pan Lake and Inferno Crater Lake are on large separate individual
sheets. In the references in the on-line paper they are stated to be
"in press" because this descriptive paper was prepared before the
maps appeared. If anyone would like the references to the maps
themselves I could provide details. (They are not available on-line.)
