About the bicycle rental in all honesty how often do you see cars/
campers/suv's/other vehicles carrying bicycles in the park. I
personally see quite a lot however, do you often see bikes in the
basin, some days you may see some others you see none.
The reason Xanterra expects accidents is a matter of simple logic. I
have been riding a bicycle since I was 5 and I still have the moment
where I may be out of control or like last year I actually fell. It
will happen wether it be your typical tourist or it may be your every
day Yellowstone loving person following all of the rules. Granted
some people are dumb however, I doubt that there will be 30 bikes
every day on the boardwalk..
I would like to give the benefit of the doubt to people who for the
most part are law abiding people and do not intentionally mean to be
breaking the rules and if they are told they they may be breaking a
rule most often they stop that action. Yes, the park has had problems
like the bike tour who was just die -hard about riding their bikes on
the board walks a few years ago but I think with Xanterra's paranoia
(which does exist try sitting though some of the manager training),
the many many signs through the basin, as well as the "tour" pamphlet
for the UGB make it so there will be very minimal effect on what we
see day to day. I suppose I feel we should at least see the situation
before we make judgement.
