More from the Geothermics 2005 v. 34 #4 p. 518 article on Tengchong and
Rehai:

Quoting: "On 7 June 1999, there was a relatively large explosive eruption
at Xipoxia (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3) that created a 1.5m diameter crater. Solid
materials were ejected to about 5m height (Fig. 3). The eruption lasted
for about 6h. The eruption intervals varied from 3 to 60s, with the
longest continuous eruption lasting for over 5min."

"On 10 December 2001, another strong explosion occurred on the overhanging
rocks on the north bank of the Zaotang River. After this explosion,
high-temperature steam and water gushed forth, reaching a height of more
than 30m (Fig. 5);"

> I am pretty sure that the Rehai thermal area (near Tengchong) is the same as
> what I earlier knew as Balazhang. Tell me, Jeff, does the Geothermics article
> mention geothermal areas by name? Including Balazhang?

I cannot find any good place names except Zaotang River, Tengchong
Volcano (location 23.32N, 98.47E, elevation 2865m, this from
volcanolive.com), and Maanshan Volcano. No mention of anything that could
be construed as Balazhang so far.
