After several days of really crummy weather, Opening Day was completely
cloudless and 55 degrees. Some chill wind on Geyser Hill, but very tolerable. A
summary:

Plume -- in the basin it turns out we had a very incomplete record. It had
consecutive intervals of 69, 66, 61, 64, 62, and 64 minutes today.

Beehive -- had erupted early. Good splashing by mid afternoon, but no
eruption to report.

Little Cub -- one closed interval of 52 minutes.

Aurum -- at 1001 and 1338, so interval of 3h 37m.

Plate -- no eruption was seen. At about 1300 it was barely below overflow and
slightly bubbling. Standing water was also visible in Boardwalk.

Beach Spring -- at 13:15, Beach had during a normal high-water boiling spell
a series of true splashing bursts. There were several, some of which were at
least 2 feet high and poured water over the entire rim.

Castle -- 1444 was a minor with a duration of about 4 1/2 minutes.

Grand -- was a walk up knowing that it had been quite a long time and
apparently had not erupted. Turns out there was an electronic time of 0003, and what
we saw was at 0924, so an interval of 9h 21m, and only a G1C with a duration
of just 9 1/2 minutes. However, mostly lately it has done a lot better and
predictions are based on 7h 15m.

Oblong -- 1149 ns and 1455, I ~ 3h 06m

Giant Hot Periods -- 0946 (d = 3m 10s), 1110 ie (d < 7m), and 1508 ( I = 5m
10s).

Daisy -- 1058 and 1325, so I = 2h 27m.

Fan and Mortar had nicely organized and long cycles with no garbage. But also
only small splashing in Bottom Vent and no visible splashing in Main Vent.
This was happening apparently at about 4 1/2 days since the previous eruption.

Green Spring -- in Black Sand Basin, there is a marker in place. Hard to
believe it could be the same as the one I placed last September, but it is in
exactly the same spot.

At Biscuit Basin, all the usual are active.

Fountain was reported by somebody at "about 1400." Nothing more on that.

Another trip in tomorrow.
