Dear Sir,

Most intelligent people on this planet do not comment on things that they obviously have no idea what they are talking about. I have been a dues paying member of GOSA for about 10 years now, and in that time I have never, EVER known of anyone to book rooms in the Old Faithful area for the purpose of "giving" them to other members. Your statement to that effect is not only wrong, it's asinine. You are slandering some of the finest, most dedicated and hardest working people it has ever been my pleasure to know. Much of what we know now about geysers and their tendencies are largely the result of many, many hours of study and observation by these people, and trust me, a very large part of it done in very much less than ideal weather conditions. The person that booked this room did so fully expecting to use that reservation for him/herself, and when, and ONLY WHEN, it became apparent that they could not use it they decided it offer the time they had booked to others on the list (time, by the way, that you yourself could have booked just as easily if you would have had a mind to. First come, first served----that seems like a pretty equal policy to me). This is no worse than you having to cancel out of a planned Yellowstone trip, and you offering it to your next door neighbor. Should I be offended by your doing that? I think not, and if you would get down off of your high and mighty high horse you would obviously see that.

Next time, sir, please take the time to become informed about a subject before running your mouth off about it. It only shows your stupidity when you don't.

  Dear Sirs,

Having planned a visit to Yellowstone National Park this summer, I recently subscribed to an internet listserver run by a group of informally organized geyser enthusiasts. I was startled to subsequently receive a number of messages such as the one following below. Apparently, this group routinely overbooks your company's lodging facilities at Old Faithful, and then trades accomodations amongst themselves. I was appalled by the sentiment "...rooms in the UGB seem extremely tight,we thought we should give...fellow gazers first shot at it."

As a tax-paying citizen, I believe accomodations in a national park should be made available to the the public at large on an equal basis.

What is your company's policy regarding this situation?

  Sincerely yours,

  Michael P. Jensen

We have a reservation for an Old Faithful Lodge Frontier Cabin
for this summer that we have decided not to use. It has one
double bed, $90.10 per night, arriving 5/30 (no longer 5/25) departing 6/3,
FOUR nights in all. Since rooms in the UGB seem extremely tight,
we thought we should give late-planning fellow gazers (or their
friends and family) first shot at it. I'm at billmb at att.net.

My first posting of this was for NINE days, but one of the gazers
asked for the first five days, departing Memorial Day 5/30.
The remaining dates are Mon, Memorial Day night, and the next
few days through Thursday, departing Friday 6/3.

If I don't hear from anybody else I will probably release them
about 4/30, but THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEE. I hope that all
the gazers who want to stay around OFI already have their dates.
