The average age of imagery from the maps.google.com site range from 18
to 24 months. Imagery can vary in age from as new as 2-3 months to as
old as 2-3 years.

The highest-resolution imagery comes from the Digitalglobe Quickbird
satellite at a resolution of ~67-centimeters/pixel. Google may alter
or distort the imagery for proprietary reasons; note that the images
have a google watermark.

So far, the only international basins available from either Quickbird
(or Ikonos) are those that mining companies are studying for mineral
potential, and thus, for potential destruction (like Lihir/Ambitle and
Puchuldiza, Chile). Those images are not available online.
