I'm so glad that you and Byron were able to see the eruption from the beginning - what a treat!

Your description reminded me of a Fan & Mortar that I saw on October 19, 2012. Below I have given a piece of what I wrote about that eruption.

"I arrived at Fan & Mortar between 1510 and 1515... When I got there, River was already on." Gold & Angle's apparent starts came soon after. "At 1531, High filled with water and started to go somewhat steadily. Gold had water for a minute or two and then Gold disappeared. High fluctuated between no water and 1-2 feet of water for a time. After about 5 minutes, it rose to 3 feet - and Gold was still absent. High continued to fluctuate, and Gold filled with water at about 1538. Gold rose to about 1 foot, and that was the highest that I actually saw it." The vents got steamy and hard to see until, "Main Vent splashed - the size of splash that would
have been good sized during a pause, but much smaller than I have
ever seen right before an eruption. After several seconds, Main
Vent surged and the eruption was on at 1543!"

Go Fan & Mortar!
Polly Panos

-----Original Message-----
>From: Michael Goldberg <goldbeml@ucmail.uc.edu>
>Sent: May 5, 2016 6:21 PM
>To: Geyser Observation Reports <geysers@lists.wallawalla.edu>
>Subject: Re: [Geysers] 5/4/16 F&M 1240
>
>Hi Tom,
>
>Thanks very much for the report.
>
>I'm not well versed in F&M's habits in the last 5-10 years, but my
>impressions of the video clips are:
>
>1236 -- It looks odd to me, but I think F&M has experimented with the
>"high vent lock" in some of its more recent activity.
