<br><br><br><br><br> The afterplay splashing always occurs after Grand erupts whether Turban & Vent Continue or Quit. If T&V have to restart, the afterplay from Grand's empty crater starts quickly after the restart. If T&V Continue after Grand, the afterplay usually begins at about 14-15 minutes after the end of Grand, but if the afterplay begins sooner (about 3-8 minutes or so) then the splashing may be taller and there could be a chance for an Afterburst - a full-sized approx 100 foot or more burst. The Afterbursts are almost always after an eruption of Grand with 2 or more bursts where Turban and Vent Continue and the afterplay splashes begin quicker than normal.<br> <br> There has been only one observed eruption of Grand that was a single burst that had an Afterburst on 31 July 2009 at 1458(T1+1C). It had a long try at a second burst, but the pool suddenly drained, so we were quite disappointed. T&V Continued and very soon we had huge afterplay that built quickly into an Afterburst. It was an unusual situation so we had an unusual Afterburst. There was a bit of screaming for that one!<br> <br> After an Afterburst it is good to keep watching the afterplay in case there are more Afterbursts. I believe that the last multiple Afterbursts were in the 1980s but I would have to look that up in some old notes to be certain (or check with the Strassers).<br> <br> Grand and its group can do many interesting things, so it is always fun to watch.
