The person selected will manage a complex environmental compliance program, a science communications program, and a research permitting program within the Yellowstone Center for Resources, the park's resource management and science division. She/he will coordinate closely with the park's branch of cultural resources on National Historic Preservation Act compliance and the branch of wildlife and aquatic resources on Endangered Species Act compliance, and will work with all park divisions to help develop important park projects and plans. Over the last several years, the park's compliance team has engaged in a variety of activities, from the development of a native fish conservation plan and environmental assessment to the writing of an EIS on wildlife management to the preparation of standard operating procedures and programmatic categorical exclusions for facilities maintenance work. Science communication activities include the preparation of numerous technical reports on topics from archaeology to natural resource vital signs, production of the well-known journal Yellowstone Science, and implementation of the web-based Greater Yellowstone Science Learning Center. The research permitting program processes approximately 200 permits annually and helps to coordinate science activities throughout the park.
