Greetings and Salutations.

This is a late trip report for May 31 to June 6 2010, moslty talking about the Fountain area. I thought there may be some people going to the park for the 4th who would want to know what's happening at Fountian as best as I could tell. Fountain continues its pattern of the last few years of usually being one of the most dependable geysers in the park. However it can every once in a while throw in a long interval and fool you. For most of the week Fountian was averaging about 5.5 hour intervals, however it did throw in one isolated 7 hour interval and on one other occasion had three intervals of 6:53, 7 \:27 and 6:17. At the tiem I was unsure if it did three longs or four short intervals but Ralph Taylor's data (Thank you again Ralph) shows it was three longs. I hope it will steady out again, we'll see. The water is not visable in the hole until the Fountain rise starts, it you are looking in the pool you can still see the rise. Durations have usually been just over 30 minutes. Ralph Taylor's data shows shorter intervals but I think that is due to were the temp sensor is, my visual times are usually one to three minutes longer than the HOBO's times.

Morning's Thief sometimes erupts about a minute or two after Fountain starts and may have a second eruption 2-5 minutes after the first. Often the wind made it impossible to see Morning's Thief. However I did catch three Fountian's where MT just came up and boiled without ever erupting. With the observations I have so far this year it appears Morning's Thief is less likely to erupt, however when it does it continues to be 20-30 feet high. It can give very nice blue bubbles also, I caught one eruption with two big blue bubbles.

Jet may or may not be active prior to Fountain. I was thinking it was erupting before Fountain about half the time, but in talking to Maureen Edgerton (who has caught many more Fountian eruptions than I have) she says it is more frequent than that. It still appears to be true that if Super Frying Pan erupts it will usually but not always shut off Jet. If Jet is quiet, an eruption of Fountain will turn it on, usually in the last few minutes of Fountain.

Twig does tend to start erupting late in Fountain's eruption, but not always. And sometimes it still appears to not care where the Fountain cycle is. So far this year I thnk about half of my Fountian eruptions have Twig starting during the Fountain eruption.

Spasm will usually but not always have one (sometimes more) eruptions before Fountain. The duration of the Spasm eruption is a bit longer this spring, usually 12-20 minutes I think. It will on rare occasions have longer duration eruptions and fill Jelly with water. Jelly shows no signs of any eruptions.

I did see one eruption of Sub on 6-2-10 to three to six feet. Maureen Edgerton tells me she sees Sub occasionally this spring.

Clepsydra will occasionally shut off 5-10 minutes after Fountain but I do not know how often that occurs. It was too rainy and I didn't wait around often

Old Cone (UNNG FNT 1) was erupting on 6-2-10 also after steaming for well over an hour.

Silez was cloudly white on 6-2-10 and it took a couple of days to clear, then it was cloudly again on the morning of 6-5-10. It showed no signs it erupted however. I think if it erupted the grass would show it, the run off channels would show it, and the water would be grey. This was a white opalesance to the water. I don't know what it was doing. There was a hail storm the afternoon of 6-1-10 but nothing but the usual rain before 6-5-10.

Celestine Pool was occasionall boiling to up to three feet.

Out in the flats I saw Honey's vent, Honeycomb, Deep Blue (one series of two bursts), Drain, and I think Three Vent. I did not see New Thing Far Left. Often however the cold weather and wind kept me from seeing the kaleidoscope group at all.

Other odds and ends, I saw Gemini once and Lynn caught several eruptions.

The little geyser in Serendipity Meadow is quite active with intervals just under a minute, durations of a few seconds, and heights of 1-2 feet. The other hot springs on the east side of Serendipity Meadow shows intermitant boiling. almost making geyser status.

The flood on 6-5-10 was interesting, the Firehole river crested on that day. The meadow below Biscuit Basin became the new Biscuit Lake. It was water clear across the valley and about a mile long. By evening the water level started dropping and the grass started to show here and there. It was a meadow again on the 6th.

Thats all for now.
