Hello again,

Here are some other info from here and there on closing weekend. In the West Thumb area Lakeshore Geyser is well out of the water and boiling but I did not see any eruption. The side vent on Fishing Cone is erupting to six inches every 5-10 seconds. King geyser continues to be hot but I saw no eruptions. Black pool is hot, Abyss is cooler. Twin Geyser continues to boil strongly out of the left (north) ven but the grass around the pool is in good shape so I don't think it has erupted. Blue Funnel and Ephedra are below overflow. Perforated pool is ov erflowing bu not bubbling at all. Ledge Geyser is cold and well below overflow. Thumb Geyser is hot but not overflowing. Colapsed pool is hot but just below overflow. Surging sprig ng is hot and bubbling steady from the middle of the pool.

In the River group the mud pots were a bit subdued perhaps due to the long summer. It had rained the week before and snowed the day before I visited so the mud was extra sticky and I did not get too close. Dark Pool was active with two intervals of 19 minutes. Up until now I never payed attention to the small pool/hole to the south-east of Dark pool (by about ten feet) but sitting next to it I discovered it was erupting to a few inches about every 10 minutes. There is some wood stuck in the hole you have to look around to see the eruption. Likely others have seen this before and I just overlooked it in the past. Fortress was active but appeared to be weaker. Brain Geyser was inactive. The pools on the flat abov e Dark Pool and Fortress were unchanged from last year, still with low water levels. Pocket Basin Geyser is inactive, the algae mats in the runoff channel are intact. Azure Spring was in overflow and had intermittent steam bubbles entering the pool. These steam bubbles were in the 2-4 foot wide range and were impressive. The bigger ones usually made it to the surface but caused almost no splashing, just a rolling of the surface water and waves. They also raised the pool level by about an inch. That said, the grass at the south end of the pool was unchanged and not knocked over so I don't think it was doing anything stronger in the days before I visited.

Fountain's intervals were about six hours and durations was a tad over thirty minutes. The shortest interval was about 5 hours 20 minutes and the longest was over seven hours. Sub Geyser was active. In the first week of October Sub Geyser was erupting but barely put any water above ground level. For closing week the eruptions had water 6-10 feet above ground level. The eruptions were in series that started anywhere from a few minutes to an hour and 15 minutes before Fountain with intervals of about 25 minutes. The last eruption usually occurred during Fountain's eruption. Morning's Thief continues to be a good performer, usually it will erupt twice early in the Fountain eruptions (sometimes once, sometimes three times) with heights of 20 to 30 or more feet. Jelly appears to be dormant. Clepsydra, Jet, Twig, and Super Frying Pan are unchanged.

Pink Cone, Pink Geyser, and Narcissus were active and apparently normal. Bead and Box were also seen. Pebble Geyser was up and down as I drove past but never in overflow. Gemini did not erupt. Artesia was erupting to 10 feet in September and early October but for closing week was only a few feet high.

Jewel was having intervals of about ten minutes. East Mustard's intervals were in t he 7-8 minute range. I saw one eruption of Slit Geyser (Silver Globe). Rusty continues to be a good performer. Shell is active

No changes in the Black Sand group.

Daisy had intervals of about 2.5 hours. Riverside was doing mostly shorts but not always.

Sawmill was usually in control of the Sawmill group but we had one Penta eruption and two Penta steam phase eruptions. Minor eruptions of Bulger Geyser were common. Uncertain was seen at least once. Slurp cotinues to be inactive.

No water was seen in Basin Spring. Little Brother continues to erupt 1-2 times a minute.

Now I have to wait until spring. Sigh.
