Greetings and Salutations,

I visited Shoshone geyser basin with my daughter Michelle on 8-17. 8-18. and 8-19. Here is a short list of what was active. The most interesting item is Velvet spring which was continuously active with most intervals of 12 minutes (a few 13's, a couple of 11's, and one odd 16) with a duration between 2 minutes and 2:15. It was active all three days with no pauses. The lower vent, the bigger pool, will "blue bubble" many times during the eruption. Knobby was quite a bit less active, it had one solo eruption on 8-18 at 1230 then a series of six eruptions starting at 1736 with three to four minute intervals between the eruptions. On 8-19 Knobby had one similar series of eleven eruptions starting at 1312. Velvet spring did not vary from its 12 minute intervals when Knobby was active. When not erupting Knobby had a steady overflow.

The Hydra was also active with an eruption on 8-18 at 1655, what looked like a minor eruption at 1720 (only some of the events were active and the duration was quite short) and one more eruption at 1807. I left a marker on it soon after that which was washed before the morning. On 8-19 The Hydra erupted again on 1552. So, is the Hydra known to have minor eruptions?

We saw Frill once, I guess a series of one eruption. It rose up one more time about 14 minutes later but only splashed a few feet high before dropping and taking hours to slowly rise back to overflow. It looked like it was building up to another eruption on 8-19 when we left the basin.

Mangled Crater was active with intervals of about an hour or slightly more.

The spring two pools downhill from Mangled Crater with two vent was active with intervals of 6-8 minutes and usual heights of one foot but with occasional eruptions with a height of 3-4 feet. Its odd, the eruption starts in the middle of the high overflow, continues through the low water and the start of the overflow, finally stopping when the heaviest overflow starts, then the eruption starts again a few seconds later.

Minute Man, Shield, and Gourd were active. No action was seen from SHO-11 and Five Crater. Trailside has one eruption as we passed. Little Giant, Double, Trio, Meander, and Locomotive were all either dormant or at least not seen. Soap Kettle was also boiling low in its cone. Union was boiling but of course not erupting. Camp group was quiet.

ON 8-19 Pearl was seen ie at 1022 and was still erupting at 1602 when I last looked at it. Yellow Sponge (I think I identified it correctly, but I could be wrong) was active with eruptions to 3-4 feet. it sometimes drops below overflow. No eruptions were seen from Snail and Fissure.

Bead was active with intervals of two hours twenty-two minutes to two hours forty-seven minutes for four closed intervals. When Terracette was high and having light overflow it had thumping much like Doublet pool.

Lion was active with intervals of just over an hour. Iron Conch had intervals of 4 minutes. Bronze spring appeared to be a perpetual spouter with about a one foot height. Old Lion was quiet, cold, and dry.

Rototiller and Outbreak were quiet. Diverted was seen in eruption once. Glen Spring had no eruptions that we saw but we only looked at it a couple of times.

The springs around Blowout pool were active as perpetual spouters about a foot high.

The trail between Shoshone and 8T1 has several spots where you have to walk through mud and muck, somewhat more than two years ago.

The pools in the Western group were fun to watch, but we saw nothing erupting as a geyser.

I'll write more later on the rest of the visit.
