Just a very small blurb about a very small geyser, and it may not even be
news, although I haven't seen it reported before:

The "fumarole" on the side of Fishing Cone (West Thumb),
mentioned in TSB's book, was active as a geyser during the week before
Memorial Day. My wife and I saw it on three different occasions,
erupting to a height of perhaps as much as three feet. Intervals
were about 2 minutes (few longer, several shorter) with the play
happening about 30% of the time. It was definitely periodic rather
than just acting as a drowned fumarole. A rudimentary,
cyanobacteria-covered runoff channel was present, so it's been doing this
for a while.

The last time we saw it was 5/23, and the water in the lake had risen
considerably since earlier in the week; possibly the vent is submerged by
now. Lakeshore had been bubbling and spitting on the first two
visits (5/18, 5/20) but was under water by the 23rd. This little
guy may be similarly defunct, but considering how little stuff is going
on at West Thumb, it seems like it should get some
mention!

Incidentally, thanks to Jim, Vicki, Bill W, etc., for again making a
couple of "early career gazers" feel welcome on our trip.
Just wish we'd been able to spend more time there...
