<html> <head> <style> .hmmessage P { margin:0px; padding:0px } body.hmmessage { FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY:Tahoma } </style> </head> <body class='hmmessage'> I knew I was going to forget something in my late July geyser report.  I spent time watching Avoca Spring twice, on July 17 and 23.  It was still having impressively large eruptions, the tallest of which reached at least 15 feet.  It has established a smallish runoff channel; only the largest eruptions put out any significant overflow, but they are happening frequently enough that bacteria is now growing in the channel.  A small hole several inches diameter appeared near the "Avoca Spring" name sign between the 17th and 23rd--not hugely surprising since there is hot ground next to the boardwalk in that area as well. I did not take any hard data on Avoca's eruptions, but they were occurring about every 2-4 minutes.  The eruptions ranged from light splashing to a few feet to strong eruptions that filled the elongated crater.  The jetting bursts from the vent at the south end of the crater towards the cone tended to be the tallest.  There may be some long-term cycles in Avoca's eruptions, but unfortunately I did not see any further evidence of the postulated connection with Silver Globe Slit.  A more careful study might produce more interesting findings. While I was watching Avoca on the 17th, I got one closed interval of 94 minutes for Silver Globe Slit.  I also got intervals of 8-10 minutes on Jewel on the 17th.
