To go along with Tara's recent note, I've been thinking about what I saw prior to the Giant eruption on 4-29-08 because it didn't all make sense to me.&nbsp; Here is about what I remember happening.&nbsp; I arrived at Grand about 1450, I did not check by watch so that time is a guess based on the fact that Grand's pool was full and the rock ridges were just barely out of the water.&nbsp; Since the next Turban was at 1501, I must of arrived at Grand at 1450 or a few minutes after that.&nbsp; When I arrived at Grand Bijou was on.&nbsp; A minute or two later (again, I didn't look at my watch to check any time until the 1501 Turban) I looked at Giant and Bijou was off.&nbsp; I waited for the GHP call thinking (wrongly) someone was at Giant.&nbsp; A minute or two later it struck me I hadn't heard any call, so I looked at Giant and Bijou was erupting in a normal fashion.&nbsp; Turban started at 1501.&nbsp; I then looked down basin and saw Mastiff ie, and as I said something about it Giant started at 1502.&nbsp; <BR>

But it didn't make sense that Bijou would come back on, but Giant erupt a few minutes later.&nbsp; I didn't think there was time for a good Giant hot period, then a restart, then Giant.&nbsp; I was assuming that when Bijou was on, that meant the GHP had ended.&nbsp; That may have been true last summer, but staring last fall there have been many GHP where Bijou is active during the GHP.&nbsp; My theory is that the GHP did start about the time I saw Bijou off for a short period of time.&nbsp; Later when I looked and saw Bijou on again, I now think it is possible, maybe likely, that the GHP was still in progress just with Bijou erupting during the GHP.&nbsp; This would make the general time from the start of the GHP (the Bijou pause) to the start of Giant about 8-9 minutes.&nbsp; This sounds reasonable and possible.<BR>

If this theory is true, I am both relieved and troubled.&nbsp; Relieved  because I was wondering if Giant could erupt on a GHP when Bijou was still on.&nbsp; So far all the GHP that included Bijou that have been recorded were weak, the longest being 4 minutes.&nbsp; So if my theory is correct&nbsp; and Giant can erupt on a GHP with Bijou..&nbsp; It may just be that no one has been at Giant when the stronger GHP with Bijou have been occurring.&nbsp; I am troubled because it will be much tougher to monitor Giant from Grand.&nbsp; As it now stands, if you are at Grand and Bijou is on, you may be in the middle of a GHP or you may not.&nbsp; You can look for Mastiff, but it will be much tougher to conclude from Grand if a GHP is or has happened, I think you will need to be at Giant to be sure.&nbsp; <BR>
