I only made a couple of notes to myself as I watched that day:

Grotto? 1535 wc (and I didn't write it down, but I believe that there was some steam to the right of it beforehand. It seemed a little far right to be Grotto Fountain, but could have been).

~1650 Giant Hot Period? or just wind shift? Rocket? In other words, there was something different at that time - an increase in steam and it appeared to be coming from a different spot. The temperatures were very cold that day, which I am sure increased the amount of steam from what we usually see. (And, of course, Fan & Mortar could have been doing something during this time period, too, as others have mentioned.)

A question about last Friday, November 30. Did anyone else see the steam cloud down basin that afternoon (1620 ie)?

I think it's also worth noting that the electronic log for Grotto has it starting at 1535e, which lines up with the time that the steam cloud appeared on the webcam.

Yeah, I was wondering why nobody mentioned that. I had the streaming cam open at work all day Wednesday, and it looked like Giant started between 15:30 and 15:45 MST. I didn't think to get any screenshots, but whoever was operating the streaming webcam focused on it for a while, so it was at least noticed locally. Along with the eruption this morning, that would make two intervals in the three to three-and-a-half day range.

David Schwarz

Happy Friday:

Two things...Did I see a Giant eruption around 1700 on Wednesday? Maybe I missed an earlier report. Also, could someone pass on to the video cam operator a big thanks for panning the whole basin? It would be nice if they could pan the camera back during an eruption of Old Faithful so that we could enjoy the whole column instead of just the bottom 1/2. Also, when no one is there to operate it, could it be directed a few degrees to the west so we can see Grand and the other down basin features? Not complaining, just trying to further enhance our enjoyment.

John Warnock

_______________________________________________
Geysers mailing list
Geysers@lists.wallawalla.edu
https://lists.wallawalla.edu/mailman/listinfo/geysers
