Miscellaneous things before getting to Grotto and Giant (no eruption as of 1400 today).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As reported yesterday, Grand erupted at 0556 and 1239 (T2C), I=6h43m. That was followed by 1924 (G1Q, 6h45m), 0339 today (8h05m) and 1049 (T1C, 7h20m).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Artemisia was seen (i.e. steam cloud) yesterday at 1849, then this morning i.e. at 0714. That interval is 12h25m. Steve also saw the steam cloud the previous day (5/1) and though I failed to record the time, it yields a double interval of about 26 hours.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Daisy today at 0945 and 1307, interval of 3h22m. It was breezy at times but never really windy.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Beehive yesterday, as noted, at 1121i.e., today at 1111, so the interval a minute or two less than 23h50m. Today's indicator was longer than 7 minutes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Oblong is doing good stuff -- big with short intervals. Today it was at 0838 and 1223ns, I=3h45m.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now... Yesterday, Grotto ended a marathon at about 0840 (still on at 0830, off at 0845). The Giant Complex did not do much until late afternoon. The first time Steve noted any jetting by Bijou was at about 1720. It fairly quickly grew in strength, and there was a hot period at 1834. The duration was about 6 minutes, and it was only during the first 2 minutes or so that Mastiff got as high as Giant's cone.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Yesterday evening, Grotto definitely had not started another eruption as of 2000. Today, it was barely off at 0745 -- I saw no steam cloud from it as I headed into the basin at 0730, and at 0745 all the runoff channels were trickling with steaming water. Was this a marathon? Well, probably yes, a "mini-marathon" sort of thing. At 0800 I saw weak jetting in Bijou (yes) and that repeated every few minutes whenever I was there, and there was frequent jetting by Catfish. This continued throughout the morning -- never consistent and always brief, but continuing. Because Grotto repeatedly seemed to be trying to start (without Grotto Fountain showing anything at all) by loud grumbling and the sound of splashing not all that far underground, and because neither Variable Spring nor Marathon Pool had lowered water levels, I had pretty much decided that Grotto's eruption had been normal rather than marathon.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>However, even as of 1400, there was no water visible in Indicator Spring or in Grotto Fountain, and Grotto had grown extremely quiet. So I guess it was a marathon of some sort, one that failed to totally shut down Bijou.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All day, the water level gradually rose in GIP. At roughly 1230, water was briefly visible in Mastiff. And at 1305 we got a hot period. Feather, Feather Satellite, Southwest Vents, the vent between Catfish and Mastiff, and Mastiff. Mastiff repeatedly jetted several feet high. At about the 3 minute mark, it got as tall as Giant's cone, and then at the very end of the hot period, only for a few seconds, Mastiff sent some jets at least 15 (I think probably 20) feet high. Impressive, but brief. Then Feather and Feather Satellite shut off very abruptly and, as the steam cleared, we saw that Mastiff had drained. Time 1310, hot period duration 5m10s. During the hot period, there was little action in Giant, Cave did no more than bubble, and I don't think Turtle even overflowed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At 1312, Bijou went into noisy steam phase for 30 seconds or so. At 1316, Feather thought about restarting, with a few splashes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Again, neither inbound nor outbound did I see anything worth reporting in the Lower Basin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Scott Bryan</DIV></FONT></BODY></HTML>
