While I hate the noise of unmuffled bikes as much as anyone (I used
to live between two biker bars that were open _late_, and used to
fantasize about what I could do with a nice heavy tripwire), I
seriously doubt that there's going to be noticeably more motocycle
traffic in Yellowstone at the end of July than there always is. Don't
forget that the Sturgis Rally is a week or two later and is fully 20
times larger. The Sturgis crowd, almost certainly including a good
number of Hell's Angels, has always blatted their way through Old
Faithful for a few weeks in late July and early August. It's just one
of the signs of midsummer, like the warmer days and less frequent
Aurums. A few hundred more bikes passing through, give or take, isn't
going to make a difference. My advice is not to hang out too much in
front of Lower Ham's at that time of year if you value your hearing.
Most places that aren't right on the road, the noise just blends in
with the general din of humanity.
As for the Hell's Angels themselves, yeah, in some regions they
operate as an organized crime syndicate, but in others they really are
just another bike club, and regardless, I doubt they're going to come
to Wyoming spoiling for trouble. A vacation's a vacation, you know?
No one wants to bring their work with them. Given their demographic,
I'd guess you're more likely to get some member of the "older
generation" chewing your ear off about his arthritis and heartburn than
trying to mug you. And if he did, I'm sure you'd have no problem
outrunning a guy in a walker.

FYI - reason to avoid YNP in late July

The following is an article that
appears in today's Billings Gazette. I, for one, plan to avoid the
Park in late July because I dislike the noise that so many bikes
create, assuming that many of them will travel through the Park before
and after the rally. Sad that Cody is so desperate for $$ that they
are actually welcoming a gang with a long history of criminal activity
to the city. And I'm terribly sorry if I am encroaching on anyone
else's curmudgeon status. (c:)
