<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>On Thursday 7 July early morning, Rachel Spring had
a side wall collapse or rupture. It became muddy opaque water and has not
cleared at all to date 16 July. Rachel was previously a clear spring in a vent
~10m diameter, in the Government Gardens, Rotorua. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Prior to this event it had always been clear,
alkaline and boiling or almost boiling for >150 years. It is uncertain if
this present change is entirely natural as it is pumped for <12 hrs each day
to supply hot water to a bathing complex nearby. This pumping causes a
waterlevel change of ~2m height daily.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>When left unpumped for a year or two in late 1980s,
Rachel overflowed at ~12 lps steadily for many months.</FONT></DIV>
