This morning, Doug Holstein (Yellostone Tour Guides) drove by and saw Silex full at about 1100. Jim drove by at 1145 and saw it empty. I got there right about 12:20, just in time to have missed what was either the second or third "major" eruption, said by some visitors to have been at least 20 feet high. From that point on, however, Silex had a series of smaller eruption, one every 1 to 3 minutes or so, each lasting anywhere from 5 to maybe 30 seconds. There was one, which had a duration longer than a minute, looked like it wanted to be a major, but it just couldn't quite do it. As the pool continued to fill, higher with each minor, the intervals and durations and force grew weaker. First overflow was right around 1530. It probably had erupted in the vicinity of 0630, as first overflow occurred at 0935. But then it had not erupted when watchers departed for Silex, near noon. There was very strong wind and, of course, Oblong's open pool might be subject to wind delays.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Giant Hot Period at 0914, duration about 8m 45s plus a restart, really good with India completely covered. But we seldom could see Mastiff because of the steam and we have no idea what kind of surging there might have been.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You'll like this one. Kendall and Curtis Madsen saw LINK last evening, at 1707 (Saturday, 4/23). Yesterday it was ie at 0802. Then it was seen at 1825 ie. It did NOT erupt in between, so that was an interval of around 10 1/2 hours. Today it had recently finished an eruption at 0800 (steaming runoff to Spasm, so call it approximately 0730. This afternoon it erupted at 1502vr, 1511ie. Interval about 7 1/2 hours.
