<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Some fun things happening at Norris the past few
days. The following info comes via Rocco Paperiello and David Goldberg
(for 9/25 and 9/26 data mainly) plus a few observations of my own (from the road
on 9/25 and in person on 9/27):</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>1-The large steaming crater downhill from
Rediscovered Geyser (heading towards Minute) along the old road has been
erupting! This feature has not been active in a long, long time. It
was first seen on Saturday (9/25) erupting every few minutes to about 10
feet. On Sunday (9/26) the eruptions were coming every 8-15 minutes and
reaching 20-45 feet until around 1630, when the eruptions stopped and the crater
completely drained. Rocco said the geyser looked a lot like Echinus.
On 9/27 I spent over a hour at the geyser and saw 4 eruptions reaching about 3
feet at intervals of 11 to 22 minutes. The water was the color of thick
chocolate pudding. Rocco spoke with an NPS employee who told him no
eruptions were reported throughout the day.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>2-Monarch Geyser is having periods of heavy
overflow and is boiling up a few feet. The play is very similar to that
seen in the mid 1990's.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>3-Rubble Geyser is active. Rocco, Tara Cross,
Matthew McLean, and I saw an eruption on 9/27 that lasted about 3 minutes and
reached about 4 feet. Rocco and Matthew just missed seeing it erupt about
2 hours before so the eruptions are coming fairly frequently.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>4-Corporal Geyser had 2 closed intervals of 40
minutes on 9/27.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>5-Porkchop was perpetually boiling to about 2 feet
on 9/27.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>6-Vixen Geyser was erupting to 10-15 feet every few
minutes on 9/27.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>7-I saw Medusa Spring erupting to about 4 feet
while driving along the main highway on 9/25. This is the first time I
have seen it in eruption in many years.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>8-Rocco saw Valentine and Guardian Geyser's in
mixed water/steam phase on 9/26.</FONT></DIV>
