As of 15:00 this afternoon, it had been over 6d 15h since the last eruption.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This morning, at about 08:00 and because of fog before any sunshine had hit the formations, the runoff from Bottom Vent was bone dry. Meaning that it had been a long time since any previous Bottom Vent eruption. Through the morning, there was little activity to speak of except to say that Angle was on much of the time. And etc. Finally, an event cycle, beginning at 13:26, as follows:</DIV> <DIV>13:26 to 13:32, River on (duration about 6 minutes).</DIV> <DIV>RV pause #1</DIV> <DIV>13:37 first observed Main Vent splash. Once started, the splashing (some of them big) continued for about 58 minutes, until the last observed at 14:35.</DIV> <DIV>13:54 RV on (pause lasted 22 minutes)</DIV> <DIV>13:55 Bottom Vent #1, duration about 30 seconds, but runoff reached the river. Note that BV and MV splashing continued while River was on.</DIV> <DIV>13:58 RV off. Duration of River was only about 3 1/2 minutes, but it was definitely on.</DIV> <DIV>RV pause #2</DIV> <DIV>14:03 BV #2, duration about 10m 50s.</DIV> <DIV>14:16 BV #3, duration about 23 minutes. Note that this BV did not end until after all of Fan's vents had turned on.</DIV> <DIV>14:27 A rather loud thumping roar in Upper Mortar (at the totally wrong time for it).</DIV> <DIV>14:37 River Vent on (pause lasted 39 minutes)</DIV> <DIV>14:38 Angle on, then seconds later Gold on along with High.</DIV> <DIV>Excellent seeming water levels, with strong jetting that at times seemed on the verge of being steady for over 11 minutes, but nowhere close to a lock. Then crash. The water practically disappeared very suddenly and it quickly was obvious that the cycle was ending.</DIV> <DIV>No eruption by F&M and do note that there was never any activity in Frying Pan, Back Vent or Upper Mortar (other than that earlier thumping), and for that matter also nothing at all in East Vent.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Whee. In summary, what seemed to be an outstanding event cycle led to no real attempt at eruption.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Riverside intervals of 6h 02m and 5h 57m.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Daisy closed interval of 4h 14m. At the time of the first of those eruptions (at 10:04), I watched as Splendid dropped far and fast AND developed a foamy surface! No, it definitely was not a soap foam (well, I don't think so -- just didn't look "right" -- but I did not go out there). I also think the water was a bit murky. All of which means that something seems to be going on in that system... and it isn't necessarily good.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Grotto, starting at 08:13, turned out to be a marathon. At 08:26 was a very good Giant Hot Period, duration 9m 06s with Mastiff surging to maybe 4 feet. Heavy overflow, lots of vent action but actually very little in Giant itself. At 11:03 was a full Mastiff Bathtub accompanied by the Southwest Vents but with only slight overflow from Feather. And then at 14:57, with Bijou essentially dead due to the marathon, a hot period with duration between 4 and 5 minutes (i.e. when first seen, no Feather but more from Giant than with the morning's "better" hot period).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Grand interval from nighttime electronic to daytime of 6h 37m.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thass all.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Scott Bryan</DIV></BODY></HTML>
