Congratulations to two eminent geologists who have experience with geysers. Some of you will remember Dr. Susan Kieffer, who did a lot of research regarding eruption mechanics while observing Beehive, Old Faithful (some of that in association with Rick Hutchinson). Sue has been awarded as the 2014 recipient of the Penrose Medal of the Geological Society of America. The Penrose Medal was established in 1927 by R.A.F. Penrose, Jr., to be awarded in recognition of eminent research in pure geology, for outstanding original contributions or achievements that mark a major advance in the science of geology. (Dr. Donald E. White received this award a number of years ago.) Dr. Robin W. Renaut, of the University of Saskatchewan, has contributed to GOSA as a co-author of articles about the geysers at Lake Bogoria, Kenya. Robin is the 2014 recipient of the GSA's Israel C. Russell Award, the annual award of the Society's Limnogeology Division. I am honored to be at least a bit acquainted with both.
