Hello again. I spend part of 5-1-13 in the Mammoth area. At that time the upper loop was not open to cars but you could walk it and I did. Palette Spring was about the same as last fall with good water. It has some old drying terraces and is making some new ones. I did not walk the paths above Palette Spring. I did stop at the visitor's center and was told that although the old vent of Canary Springs is dry and the water is now coming out farther out on the old terraces and closer to the edge they are still calling it Canary Springs. They also said the upper loop should open to cars any day now. Grassy Spring and Dryad Spring are still nicely active. The main part of Trail Spring is dry however there is a new but smaller breakout between the old vent and the boardwalk. The new Canary Spring is impressive is somewhat hard to see. The vent is about 60 yards farther out and just on the edge of the drop off. It is making new terraces all the way down the hill. From the end of the Boardwalk you can see some of them but maybe the best view is from the road pullout below (with binoculars). Cupid Spring is dry again. The big spring and terrace on the back end of Narrow Gauge Terrace is still active and beautiful. There was not much water coming from New Highland Terrace. Orange Spring Mound has lost most of its water and is almost not orange. The mound closest to the road has water coming out of the side of the mound and so the side of the mound near the road it is orange. The three main mounds had no water when I walked past and are dry and white. The back extension continues to have good water. Bath lake continues to be dry. There is a little water on White Elephant Back Terrace and Angel Terrace. Stephen Eide -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
