I love this!  And as a musician who composes for choirs, I can appreciate the use of italics to combine syllables that move a little faster!

Dear Friends,

 

I’m sorry to send this so late, but you have no idea of the arduous steps I must go through each year to bring you these geyser carols.  The manuscript is first submitted to the Literary Review Panel of King’s College, Cambridge, who must approve it.  This year there was some controversy about the use of the nonstandard plural, “bisons.”  A narrow vote of four to three passed it on artistic grounds.  Then there was the testing in front of carefully selected focus groups, but I won’t bore you with all the details.  Here is my latest offering to all of my gazer friends. 

 

 

Here Come Grizzly Paws

to the tune of “Here Comes Santa Claus”

 

(N.B.  To help fit the words to the music, I have indicated where the

faster notes (eighth-notes) occur in the text by showing them in

italics.)

 

Here come grizzly paws with big grizzly claws,

Walking down the lane.

Warnings are put up and trails are closed up,

To drive gazers insane.

 

Mortar may play and Fan may spray,

Oh, it’s a wonderful sight.

Rangers say that you must not stay 

‘cause grizzlies are out tonight.

 

Hulking bisons don’t need a license

To get in everyone’s way.

Blocking the trail is a fearsome male

To keep all of us at bay.

 

Beehive blows and Lion goes,

In all their glorious might.

Stay away to your great dismay

‘Cause bison are out tonight.
