The last time I saw Vixen erupt was in 2002, and I didn't have a digital photo. So I decided to take my lunch and hope for the best. When I arrived at Vixen at 12:42, it was wet: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36288910@N00/7255613446/ Given that it was hot, sunny, and windy, I figured I had just missed an eruption. But at least it appeared to be active. For a long time, nothing happened. Around 1:30, I heard splashing and saw some splashing, but I wasn't able to get a picture of it. Around 2:00, I was beginning to feel foolish. I packed up my chair and stood up. But the noise in the crater *seemed* to be getting louder. At 2:22, there was consistent splashing: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36288910@N00/7255613986/ At 2:23, Vixen erupted: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36288910@N00/7255614712/ At 2:23, the eruption was over and the crater was full: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36288910@N00/7255615708/ At 2:23, the crater drained like a toilet in about 3 seconds, complete with swirl and sucking noise: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36288910@N00/7255616148/ I took seven pictures of the eruption and then put my camera down to see the last half of the eruption. So I'd say the entire thing lasted 30 seconds, at best. If it did anything after that, I'll never know. I noticed that Palpitator Spring was drained when I walked by. http://www.flickr.com/photos/36288910@N00/7255612952/, http://www.flickr.com/photos/36288910@N00/7255603510/ -Robin -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
