Hello all, what a beautiful day in the park today. I started will 3 moose and 70 bull elk in the Big Sky area, and then one of the largest wolves I have seen yet, on the other side of the Firehole River 1/4 mile south of the Firehole Picnic area. The rest of the day at Black Sand, Biscuit and Old Faithful was uneventful, until the Lower Geyser Basin. All times are 02/21/10 unless otherwise noted: Great Fountain 10:13 ie (from the road on the way in) Super Frying Pan 13:23 ie, quit at 13:29 Jet 13:29; 13:40 Kaleidoscope 13:28; 13:30; 13:32; 13:33; 13:34 Fountain 13:48 ns (right as we hit the parking lot) Morning's Thief 13:52; 13:57 (great view of Fountain and the Thief from the road. Sub Geyser: 13:23; 13:29 both shots were 10 to 20 about the crater rim, I can't recall seeing Sub shoot that high before. Sure the wolf was nice, but the Lower Geyser Basin was my highlight today. Some Bighorn Sheep and Mule Deer rounded out the day upon arriving back within the shadows of Lone Mountain. >From 02/19/10: Fountain 13:59 ns On a side note, I agree with Lynn's note about winter use. When taking tour reservations, I have had a couple of people on the phone in tears, because they couldn't afford to go into the park. Personally, I don't like it that I can not afford it to go into the park unless I'm working in the wintertime. Some side notes: the snowcoaches the environmentalists are calling for, well mine today used 26 gallons of fuel, on a hard pack day. On a soft snow day the coach will use about 40+ gallons, it's all about the friction. The same van with wheels will make the same trip to OF and back from West using 4-6 gallons. Let's plow it and get it open year 'round, and make it affordable to the public, not just the rich.
