When I left the trailer this morning, Orion was clearly visible in the left hand portion of the sky, but the right hand portion of the sky was dripping on me. The sky cleared so it was mostly sunny with some interesting clouds today, but it was windy and that wind was very brisk and cold.

Castle's major eruption this morning happened before the download giving the time for the overnight minor. Kitt reported Castle said, "Oh look, Kitt and Jim are walking up toward me. It's time to squirt them." Yes, Kitt and Jim got rained on by Castle this morning.

I plan to be in Yellowstone through October 15, but decided this weekend might be the last weekend with a dozen or so gazers in the park, so we did "Truck o' Pancakes" in the DNBS parking lot this morning. Besides, I thought pancakes would be a good way to use up the leftover cherry and blueberry toppings that didn't get used with the cheesecake last week. Turned out there were a dozen gazers plus the cook who showed up for breakfast. We also invited a couple other people, including one visitor who graduated from high school in the same town where I was born a decade earlier. The visitor later showed up at Great Fountain and jokingly asked what was for lunch but I explained the "Truck o' Pancakes" had an extremely limited menu--exactly what the name says.

I watched the 1127 eruption of White Dome from the benches at Great Fountain. The sun angle is such that even at almost noon there was a low rainbow in White Dome's curtain of water, although the red, orange, yellow portion of the rainbow was missing.

The turnout on the west side of the road just south of the Fairy Falls trailhead was closed today. There is a bison carcass on the west edge of the Firehole River. I don't know whether a bear has actually been sighted on the carcass yet, but bear management has the roadside south of the entrance to the steel bridge closed through the pullout and a little farther beyond. They did not yet have the entrance to the steel bridge closed and the Fairy Falls trailhead was still open when I came back from Great Fountain a little after noon yesterday.

I spent the afternoon at Fan & Mortar watching Angle never shut off and abysmal water levels until the last River Vent at 1755, which had great water levels through the nine minute mark, then crashed. I stuck around to watch the next cycle because I wanted to try to get some rainbows in Riverside, which I did. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing so hard that the water column was getting blown back on itself and it was so cool that there was more steam than water, but at least there was a rainbow.

Ann and Darrell Scharf came in today for a short trip. Steve Bezore and his friend Al leave early Monday morning so we'll still have about a dozen gazers here for a couple more days.

Comment from a visitor while I was at Fan & Mortar this afternoon--When I quietly and politely informed a couple who had brought their medium- to large-size dog down to Morning Glory that dogs weren't allowed on the boardwalks (or trails, etc.) in Yellowstone, their somewhat huffy reply was "Well, they let us take dogs to Old Faithful," and the couple kept on walking.
