[Geysers] MODERATOR COMMENT: Scooters in the basin

As a follow-up to my earlier comment, I regret that I did not mention that the family using scooters apparently was told (erroneously) by someone at the Visitor Center that scooters were permitted on the paved path.

The following information has been provided by Lynn Stephens:

A discussion of the use of scooters,  roller skates, roller blades, etc., came up in a meeting I was at on 9/9/2009.  We were given the following information:

Scooters are not allowed on the paved path as per 36 Section CFR Section 1.5 (a) (2) which states:

"The use of roller skates, skateboards, roller skis, roller blades or similar devices are permitted only in government housing and administrative areas.

"100.  The above activities may occur on the section of the Grand Loop Road between Mammoth Hot Springs and West Yellowstone which may be open after the November closure and prior to the April wheeled vehicle road opening in conjunction with administrative vehicular travel."
